The Cap of Summer

If this is the cap of summer,

Close it well and tight;

Keep in the stars and long nights.

I’ll open it one day in the near future,

When I’m far away and

Long for you.

You’ll be safe in there

(Pink curls,

Big smile,

Green eyes,

Perfect delivery,

Boisterous laugh).

I love summer,

I love you.

(Plain, simple, sunny)

I’m scared of what the future holds;

I hope you hold me in yours.

(And I know I’ll keep you in mine,

There’s no version of life where that is in doubt)

Could I have ever been ready

For love to rear itself through the back door,

unexpected?

How do you deal with this?

You cry and cry and cry.

You grieve

And you keep on loving.

Isn’t it awful?

Isn’t it lovely?

Isn’t it wonderful?
