Pink Skin

I like to pretend

Color my skin anew

Pink

Glorious pink

Soft and sweet

A jar of honey

I love the lull of voices

The slurred ones especially

They pull me away from worry

Dulled and grainy

Each word burning out like a candle lit too long

I close my eyes

I pretend you’re reading me poetry

I pretend it’s beautiful

I pretend I know your voice

And I find, in the end

Hands on my pink face

I am really

crying
